Darebin Council are currently undertaking a community consultation - sign the petition and write to the Mayor or your local ward councillor. Not sure who that is? Visit https://www.darebin.vic.gov.au/About-Council/Councillors-and-governance/Councillors/Mayor-and-Councillors.
The golf course runs at a profit - In October 2021 more than 4000 rounds were played! Redevelopment is estimated to cost ratepayers over $31million.
Redevelopment will also decimate the natural environment that so much of our fauna call home.
Public golf is for everyone, redevelopment will end recreational golf for juniors and seniors alike.
Thank you to the many thousands of people who filled out the community survey in favour of golf being retained at Northcote Public Golf Course. The response has been truly amazing and thanks to you, this has been the largest survey response ever in the history of Darebin Council.
Thank you for the large team of walkers that delivered the 17,000 fliers to our local community and the many of you who also delivered another 17,000 brochures for our friends at the 'Northcote Community and Golf Hub'. It's a tremendous effort and we have received hundreds of emails of support as a consequence. Thank you team!
Councils plan to redevelop a profitable golf course will cost ratepayers $500k per annum in lost revenue (green fees) and up to $31million in capital costs.
(based on the recent conversion of Victoria Park Golf Course to a public park)
The natural environment will be worse off under a redevelopment. The golf course provides a sanctuary for the extensive bird life, native wallabies, possums and bats. Don't let them turn it into a dog park.
The golf course is nestled amongst the highest number of parks in Darebin. In fact, it is the only place in Darebin where literally every single home has access to a park.

Golf brings people together of all ages and backgrounds to play together. Female participation has been steadily increasing and will continue to grow as more and more young female participants grow to enjoy the sport.
Golf Australia reports that women's golf has grown by over 30% in 2020. We also saw 253,000 more adults play golf in 2020 than the previous year.
They call it the 'game for life' for a reason. it is one of the few sports that can be played from 5 years of age to 100 years. Many of our golfers are over 60 years young.
Public golf courses provide a gateway to the game golf for many young people. Many top PGA professionals have humble beginnings at public golf courses. Access for juniors to sport close to home is investing in our children's happiness, health and futures. Northcote provides one of the cheapest rounds of golf in Melbourne. It's closure would unfairly target low income users who may not be able to afford to travel and play elsewhere.
Don't forget, once we save the golf course, we can make the space even more special. Have a look at www.northcotehub.com and dare to dream that we could leave a legacy of success to our children.
By creating an environment where golf, native vegetation and animals all thrive and local community groups gather, Northcote grows too.
Share this website, talk to your friends and family and be part of something special.
Together, we can save the golf course and send a clear message to council to leave our precious golf course alone.
The Northcote Golf Club started a petition with incredible success. Over 7000 people have signed it so far. Please consider adding your name to show your love for community golf!
